Laziness won’t get you anywhere

A king once ordered his men to erect a boulder on a road. Then he crept into the underbrush and waited for someone to push the boulder out of the way.

Some of the richest merchants and courtiers of the king simply walked past it as they passed.

Although many people accused the King of failing to maintain the roadways clear, none of them took action to have the stone removed.

A peasant carrying vegetables came by one day. The peasant walked up to the boulder, lay down his load, and tried to fling it aside. He succeeded only after much pushing and straining.

A pocketbook was laying in the path where the boulder had been when the peasant returned to collect his veggies. The note from the King and the abundance of gold pieces in the purse indicated that the money was intended for the person who had lifted the roadside boulder.
